Know yourself – Understand others Click to return to Team Development Page There are many factors and reasons as to why some people are more successful than others. Access to finance is an obvious one given the current economic climate. Some may say that luck plays its part – being in the right place at the right time scenario. Many local business and women are recognising, however, that you can be more successful if you can develop a personal understanding which in turn can provide you with an ‘edge’ when it comes to relationships and business. The edge comes through recognising and learning to understand the personal impact that personal psychological type and style has on perceptions, approach to others, approach to work and interaction with the people you meet or interact with. This knowledge enhances your ability to define your own direction, know your strengths and capabilities and enables you to portray yourself more successfully. One of the best ways to achieve this ‘edge’ is to use a psychometric instrument which is based on the theories of Carl Jung a Swiss psychiatrist. Jung’s theories were developed by Katherine Myers and Isobel Briggs who had a lifelong interest in human personality. Between them , they developed the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, commonly referred to as the MBTI, is, today, one of the most widely used self-development tools available. With over 50 years of research and development behind it, more than 3.5 million people use the instrument to enhance their personal and career development. In straightforward terms, the MBTI classifies ways in which we understand the world around us, how we deal with it and how we react to it. Understanding your own type in terms of the MBTI allows you to predict your own response to situations and the individuals around you. Also, being aware of the types of colleagues, friends and clients can help you gain faster rapport and understanding and create far more profitable interactions. The MBTI can be used for many purposes including the following;
So, the understanding gained from knowing your own type and preferences coupled with the insight you gain from understanding the types of people around you can give you a successful ‘edge’ be it at work or in a more social setting. This can have enormous beneficial implications for you, your development as a person, your career and your success in life. Dave Lees, Director of IntegritUs Ltd, runs MBTI workshops locally for groups of individual business men and women, as well as for corporate clients. After a recent workshop, held at the Old Vicarage Restaurant in Branston, some of the attendees commented: “I found that the information I gained has made me much more aware of the different approaches that the people I deal with on a day to day basis have to the way they work. I can now adapt my approach to smooth out any likely problems, hopefully before they occur.” Alan Parsons
“I attended one of the 'Know Yourself, Understand Others' workshops which has given me a great insight into how people tick. It also gave me confidence about myself." Craig Marston “The course was fascinating and included understanding personalities, how we process information, communicate, make decisions and approach life………. I certainly feel I have gained greatly from this course and I certainly had lots of fun along the way.” Sally McMahon Dave Lees - IntegritUs Ltd Photograph courtesy of Marston Photography For more information on how you can gain this insight into yourself anf others, how you can gain the ‘edge’ then contact Dave Lees on Tel. 07855 832667 or by e-mail at daveglees@integritusltd.co.uk.
