What have you achieved so far? What do you do well? What do you need to improve? To use the analogy from above if you start ‘in Staffordshire’ and want to get to ‘Yorkshire’ you have even more problems in deciding the route because you have not been specific enough. So be specific.
  • Any good BP starts with now. You have to know where you are exactly to be able to gain a clear and realistic idea of where you want to end up.......

Tip 4 – Talk benefits

You will hear this advice on any good sales course.

Many time I have been sitting in a network listening to one after another participant stand up and say, “Hello I am so and so from PQRS company and what we do is XYZ”. Then go on to list out a number of what you would call features of their company. This is OK, you have to let your audience know what you do, but I’d argue that to be successful, it does not go far enough.

For example, with apologies to any plumbers out there who network, if plumber a stands up and says, “I am a plumber”, I know what he or she does and really can make an educated assumption about how he or she does it.
